Wastepal Food Waste Collection Service
With the new Waste Management (Food Waste) Regulations 2009 all commercial premises must segregate and separately store all food waste arising on their premises for the purposes of authorised collection.
Who Does this Regulation Apply to?
Until July 1st 2011, this regulation applies to all organisations producing more than 50kg of food waste per week. This includes the major producers of food waste, such as
- Restaurants, cafés and canteens
- Hotels and larger guest houses
- Supermarkets and other food retailers
- Events where food waste is produced
- State buildings, healthcare and educational facilities where food is prepared.
Examples of food waste which must be separated from your waste and recyclable bins are;
fruit, vegetables, paper napkins, paper towels, tea bags, coffee grinds, eggshells, bread, cheese, dairy, cooked meat and raw meat.

All food waste material collected by Wastepal is sent to a newly built Biogas Plant in Co. Wexford. This plant breaks down the waste using anaerobic digestion. A bi-product of the process is gas which powers an electric generator. The electricity generated is then sold to the grid. This facility is fully permitted by the local authority and the Dept of Agriculture and meets ABPR and HACCP standards.
Wastepal’s Food Waste Collection Charges?
Charges outlined below are per empty for each of 140 litre wheelie bin (due to weight restrictions this is the largest bin available).
- €9.00 per empty for businesses with 4 or less bins
- €8.50 per empty for businesses with between 5 and 9 bins
- €8.00 per empty for businesses with 10 or more bins
